1. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4th 1968. He was 39 years old. He died because of the change that he was leading in America. Dr. King advocated for civil rights, human rights and he felt that poverty could be solved if we worked together to help the poor. The night before he would be killed, Dr. King gave this speech to a group of protesting Memphis City workers who were trying to get equal and fair pay for their work. Please watch the following excerpt of his speech at the end of the announcements. This is a profound speech and still compelling to watch after 46 years.

2. Thanks to NIKE we will have field and fun activities in the gym. Please follow the adjusted schedule. As a result our celebration for those who completed their Spring Break Packets will be held at a later date.
3. On Tuesday, April 8th at 9:30 AM we will have an assembly presented by the Birmingham Department of Youth Services. Grades 3-5 should arrive by 9:25 AM.
